Liberty School Bonds Go Before Voters

From Staff And Wire Reports

Liberty School District voters will decide Tuesday whether to approve a 20-year, $7 million bond for construction and remodeling of classrooms. “It looks positive,” said Armin Vogt, superintendent of the district. “We’ll see what happens.”

Attempts to pass bonds in 1990, 1993 and 1994, all failed to garner the needed 60 percent approval.

The estimated tax rate for the $6.98 million bond is $2.27 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.

The district’s greatest need, Vogt said, is classroom space. Elementary and junior high school classes have reached 25 to 27 students, up from 18 to 21, he said.

The bond would add 14 classrooms, several teaching areas and pay to consolidate and expand the library, cafeteria and music areas.

The money also would remodel the high school science labs, create a district-wide computer network and add space for physical education.
