Police Find Footprints Matching Missing Boy
Police found footprints near a cabin in their search Monday for a boy who has been missing for three days in rugged backcountry.
The footprints near the cabin, which had been broken into, “generally match” those of 12-yearold Leroy DeGrand, said Custer County Sheriff Jim Dagget. There was still no sign of the boy by nightfall.
DeGrand disappeared Friday afternoon while climbing the 7,240-foot Harney Peak during a school field trip.
Snow, hail and heavy rains lashed the upper elevations of the Black Hills over the weekend. DeGrand was wearing jeans, a T-shirt and perhaps a sweatshirt.
