Robber May Have Planted Pipe Bombs

Associated Press

Authorities suspect a man who robbed a Clackamas County Bank Monday planted two pipe bombs at nearby power poles.

The pipe bombs were set to explode at 9 a.m. The Welches bank on Highway 26 was robbed at 9:13 a.m., Clackamas County deputy Damon Coates said.

“It looked as though they were meant to go off about the time of the robbery and fall onto the highway,” Coates said.

One bomb caused minor damage to a power pole. The other bomb failed to explode.
