Nbc Backing Microsoft’s On-Line Service

In a deal signifying a major shift of allegiance in cyberspace, NBC said Tuesday it will abandon two major on-line services in favor of the one yet to be created by software king Microsoft Corp.

The action is part of a broad arrangement between NBC and Microsoft that includes jointly creating consumer-targeted software and working on futuristic two-way TV.

The immediate effect of the alliance is a badly needed validation of Microsoft Network, an online service the company aims to start this summer.
