Rogers, Nc Softball Teams Win
Shannon Zahrowski keyed a seven-run sixth inning with a pair of singles Friday as Rogers defeated Moses Lake 9-4 at the Region IV-AAA fastpitch softball tournament.
With the score tied at 2, Zahrowski singled to lead off the bottom of the sixth. The Pirates had seven hits in the inning, including Zahrowski’s two-run single.
Angie Vulcano went 2 for 2 and scored twice, and Gena Greenside was 2 for 3 with two runs batted in for Rogers. Winning pitcher Traci Moore (18-5) scattered 10 hits.
Rogers, No. 2 from the Greater Spokane League, plays Big Nine No. 1 Richland at 11:30 this morning.
Also from the GSL, North Central defeated Eisenhower 6-2 in eight innings; league champion Mead lost to Wenatchee 3-2; and University lost to Richland 5-4.
Jan Risinger was awarded home on an interference call in the seventh to tie the game at 2, then hit a two-run double during a five-run eighth to lead NC over Ike.
Winning pitcher Denise Devereaux (7-5), who pitched a three-hitter and had five strikeouts, also had a two-run double in the eighth. The Indians play at 11:30 a.m. today against Wenatchee.
Richland scored its winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a basesloaded infield single. The Titans play Moses Lake in a loser-out game at 9:30 a.m.
