A proposal to issue a limited number of hunting permits for sandhill cranes was voted down by the Idaho Fish and Game Commission last week.

Game managers had recommended issuing up to 200 special permits for hunting the cranes to reduce damage the birds inflict on crops in southern Idaho. The commission directed the department to seek other methods of reducing crop damage.
