Bunge Corp. Strikes Deal With Cargill
Bunge Corp., one of seven giant grain exporters in the Pacific Northwest, has agreed to sell its Portland export grain terminal to Cargill Inc., the world’s largest exporter.
Cargill, the same company that last December bought Intermountain Canola Co., said it has been looking to add capacity on the West Coast to serve its expanding Pacific Rim markets.
Bunge officials said the company to focus its efforts on the Mississippi River operations.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the sale should close in June.
Cargill is based in Minneapolis; Bunge in St. Louis.
Bunge’s terminal in central Portland was built in 1955 and has capacity for about 1.5 million bushels of grain, according to the Pacific Northwest Grain & Feed Association, a trade group. The terminal has truck, rail and barge facilities.
