Iaaf Reconsiders

Compiled From Wire Services

The drug-related ban on Peter Gordon, a British discus thrower suffering from cancer, was lifted by the IAAF, track’s world governing body.

Gordon had been suspended for four years for failing to provide a complete urine sample at the British championships in June 1993. Gordon, who has testicular cancer, was unable to provide the sample because of his illness.

In other action, the IAAF upheld the four-year ban on Italian runner Giannina Re, who is competing for Arizona State University, and awarded the 1999 World Cross Country Championships to Northern Ireland.
