We won’t be joining state’s newest cities

Congratulations, Spokane Valley.

On May 16 you passed up your last opportunity to get a voting membership on the Spokane County Growth Management Steering Committee - the committee that is making determinations for the county that will be in effect for the next 20 years.

Millwood, an incorporated city of 1,700 citizens, has one voting member on this committee. The area proposed for the city of Spokane Valley, with 45 times as many people, will continue to have none.

Incidently, the two latest communities to become incorporated in the state, Lakewood (population 65,000) and Edgewood, (10,900) did so on April 14.

On May 16 they held primary elections to nominate candidates for mayor and council.

They are two of three new cities that have been formed in Pierce County within the last six months. All survived the volumes of last minute blitzing of negative advertisingbacked by huge sums of money such as we experienced here. Lloyd Bradshaw Spokane Valley
