Hecla Mining Files Shelf Registration
Hecla Mining Co. filed papers with the Securities and Exchange Commission Friday to issue up to $100 million in securities.
The universal shelf registration sets up Hecla to issue stock, warrants or other bonds. The company said it has no immediate plans to do so, but the filing gives Hecla flexibility to go on the market at opportune times.
Hecla has ambitious exploration and development goals for upcoming years, including a recently announced restart at its Greens Creek silver mine in Alaska. Hecla is a partner in that project with Kennecott Greens Mining Co.
Hecla also continues to develop the Gold Hunter deposit at its Lucky Friday silver mine in Mullan, Idaho. Hecla Chairman Art Brown has said the company eventually will need substantial resources if the silver deposit turns out to be as rich as projected.
