Whitworth’s Gumm Wins National Title

Whitworth College freshman Trina Gumm won the NAIA national javelin championship Saturday, throwing 141 feet, 7 inches.

A graduate of Colville High School, Gumm duplicated the feat of Whitworth javelin coach Nathan Whelham, who won the NAIA men’s title in 1990.

Pirates senior Gail Pitman, a Reardan High School alum, finished sixth in the javelin with a 135-0 effort.
