Truck Driver Dies After Brakes Fail
A Washington man died in Ferry County late Saturday after the brakes on his semitruck and trailer failed, the state patrol said.
Twenty-two calves and eight cows also died when the truck smashed into a pine tree near the intersection of Cache Creek Road and State Highway 21, 35 miles south of Republic.
Daryl A. James, 49, of Marlin, suffered massive head injuries, police said.
James was traveling east on Cache Creek near Highway 21 when his brakes failed, police said.
