Dollar Ends Slightly Higher
The dollar rose slightly against most major currencies in thin trading Tuesday amid optimism that the economy is not slowing as fast as money traders had expected.
A string of economic data due out this week could show some economic strengthening, which may dissuade the Federal Reserve from cutting interest rates when its policy-making committee meets in July, analysts said.
Lower rates would make dollardenominated holdings less attractive.
In late New York trading, the dollar was quoted at 82.79 Japanese yen, up from 82.65 late Friday. U.S. currency markets were closed Monday for Memorial Day.
