School District Runs Levy Thursday

From Staff And Wire Reports

Boundary County voters will go to the polls Thursday to vote on a $490,000 school maintenance and operations levy.

Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Bonners Ferry High School, Evergreen, Mount Hall, Naples and Valley View elementaries.

The district needs the money to update its textbooks and pay for increased utility and fuel prices. The money also would allow the district to set aside federal forest funds to repair buildings and replace school buses.

The proposed levy would not increase the school tax for residents, district officials said. Because an emergency levy and supplemental levy from last year both expire, residents will see a savings of 95 cents per $1,000 of taxable value even if the levy passes.
