Teen Recovering From Swimming Accident
A 13-year-old girl was in fair condition at the hospital Tuesday after a boat propeller hit her while she swam in Rose Lake.
The girl, whose name was not released, received cuts to her legs Monday evening and was taken to Kootenai Medical Center for surgery, Kootenai County Sheriff’s officials said.
The girl was in a small fishing boat with a man and a 12-year-old girl on Rose Lake east of Coeur d’Alene.
At about 4:50 p.m. the man was thrown from the boat after it hit a large wake, according to a sheriff’s report.
The boat kept going and the 13-year-old girl jumped out, according to the report. Then, the boat circled around and ran over the girl, hitting her with the propeller.
The 12-year-old girl, who stayed in the boat, finally was able to shut off the motor, according to sheriff’s officials.
Names of the people involved were not released because the case is still under investigation. Sheriff’s officials say alcohol was not involved in the accident.
