Ucla Will Take Shots At Both Track Titles
Watch out for UCLA!
While Arkansas is favored to win its fourth consecutive men’s title at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and Louisiana State’s women team is the choice to extend its remarkable winning streak to nine, UCLA could beat them both.
Although UCLA doesn’t have as much depth, it has a lot of quality.
Ato Bolden leads the way in 100 meters at 10.08 seconds, the fastest by a collegian this year. In the 200, he has the fastest legal time in the world this year (20.08).
The Bruins also have favorites in the shot put, discus and javelin.
Among the women, the Bruins’ boast Amy Acuff in the high jump with a collegiate record 6-6, Valeyta Althouse in the shot with an American collegiate record 61-10 1/4 and Dawn Dumble in the discus with a 1995 U.S. best of 199-9.
