Worries Snuff Out Dollar Rally

The dollar rally inspired by the federalists’ victory in Quebec lost momentum on Tuesday over worries that Canada is far from united.

The narrow victory over secessionists raised caution that Canada’s political climate remains volatile and brought the dollar from highs reached just after the vote results were released.

In late New York trading, the dollar fell to 1.3447 Canadian dollars, from 1.3600 late Monday. The dollar ended at 1.4082 German marks, down from 1.4098 late Monday, and rose to 102.06 yen, from 101.93 yen.
