Lawsuit Could Delay Proposed Intel Plant
A Pierce County farmer has filed a lawsuit accusing local officials of bypassing environmental laws to persuade Intel Corp. to build a computer plant in DuPont.
A similar suit was filed two weeks ago.
If successful, the suits could delay construction of the $250 million research and computer assembly complex. Work is slated to begin in the next few weeks.
Kenneth W. Braget filed suit Tuesday against DuPont city officials in Pierce County Superior Court. Braget said the officials violated the state’s Environmental Policy Act by declaring the Intel project would not require an environmental impact statement.
His 400-acre farm is west of Northwest Landing, the development owned by Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Co. where Intel intends to build.
Bob Shedd, vice president of Weyerhaeuser Real Estate, called the lawsuit frivolous but said delays caused by such legal actions could force Intel to reconsider its plans.
