Karen Turner Wasilla, Ark.

Service for Karen K. Turner, 55, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at English Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Turner, who was born in Boise, died Wednesday.

She moved to the Silver Valley in 1940 and graduated from high school in Mullan, Idaho. She moved to Alaska in 1959 and then to Coeur d’Alene in 1994 due to health reasons.

She married John Turner in Wasilla in 1986.

Mrs. Turner had worked as a bookkeeper in tax preparation.

Survivors include her husband, at home; three sons, Dean and Gary, both of Anchorage, and Dohn, of South Carolina; five stepdaughters, Tana Durk and Sheryl Brathering, both of Anchorage, Dee Little of Georgia, Gail Griffith of Seattle and Karie Turner of Arkansas; and 11 grandchildren.

Warren Van Kingston, Idaho

Memorial service for Warren Thomas Van, 85, will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Van, a longtime resident of the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River, died Wednesday of pneumonia.

He was born in Montana and attended schools in Usk and Newport, Wash., before moving to Cataldo,in 1927.

He married Ailie Anderson in 1931. She died in 1990.

He worked as a logger and rancher and moved to his ranch on Studer Creek off the North Fork in 1945.

Mr. Van worked underground at the Bunker Hill Zinc Plant for several years before retiring in 1972. He had also worked at the Kellogg Transfer Treating Plant at Enaville, Idaho.

Mr. Van enjoyed an interest in resource conservation and was a member of the Kootenai Soil Conservation District and Water Resource Board.

Survivors include a son, Maurice of Eugene, Ore.; a foster son, John Thompson of Kingston; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Katherine Kneff Winfrey Spokane

Visitation for Katherine M. “Kay” Kneff Winfrey is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Winfrey, 34, died Tuesday.

She was a lifetime Spokane resident.

She is survived by her husband, Michael; three children, Richell, Jasmin and Jefferey Winfrey; her father, Zane Kneff; and her mother, Audrey Kneff, all of Spokane.

Stacy Carman Spokane

Funeral Mass for Stacy Lee Carman, 20, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Carman, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Wednesday in a car accident.

He graduated from University High School in 1994 and worked at Snyder’s Bakery. He also worked for United Parcel Service and at the Mustard Seed as a chef.

He is survived by his mother, Renee Carman of Spokane; his father, Gary Carman of Grandview, Wash.; two brothers, Trevor Carman of Grandview and Shawn Liffenth of Portland; one sister, Meagan Carman of Grandview; and his grandparents, Jack and Marge Manning of Spokane, and Dick and Betty Carman of St. Maries.

Monty Ralph Cusick, Wash.

Visitation for Monty L. Ralph, 41, will be from 8 to 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at the Marshall Cemetery. A gathering at Marshall Community Church will follow the service.

Mr. Ralph died Sunday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was receiving treatment for burns he suffered in an industrial accident in May at Ponderay Newsprint Co., in Usk, Wash.

He was born in Spokane.

He had served in the Air Force for eight years and had worked as a millwright at the newsprint company.

He was a member of the Quarter Horse Association.

Mr. Ralph is survived by his mother and stepfather, Phyllis and Don Brashler of Chewelah, Wash.; and five brothers, Gary Ralph of Springdale, Wash., Bill Ralph of Deer Park, and David, Jerry and Kevin Ralph, all of Colville, Wash.

Richard Porath Cheney

Memorial service for Richard R. Porath, 65, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. There will be private inurnment.

Mr. Porath, who died Tuesday, was born in Minneapolis.

He had worked for Northern Pacific Railroad and later Burlington Northern Railroad for a total of 34 years before he retired in 1990.

He had lived in Cheney for 20 years and was a Korean War Army veteran.

He was a member of the United Transportation Union.

Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Evelyn Porath; five daughters, Angie Pate of Ephrata, Wash., Denise George and Deborah Pfau, both of Spokane, Laura Bryant of Tacoma and Heidi Wickenhagen of Othello, Wash.; 10 stepchildren, four granddaughters, two grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

Lawrence Morse Spokane

Graveside service for Lawrence V. Morse, will be at 10 a.m. today at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at Euclid Avenue Baptist Church, where he was a member. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Morse, who died Monday, was born in Pampa, Texas.

He grew up in New Mexico and moved to Medical Lake in 1957. He worked as the custodian for Medical Lake High School until he retired in 1986.

For the past five years he had worked as custodian at Euclid Avenue Baptist Church.

He moved to Spokane nine years ago. Mr. Morse was a Korean War Army veteran.

His first wife, Viola Morse, died in 1985.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Morse; one son, Norman Morse of Spokane; one daughter, Jeanene Cummings of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two sisters, Eva Smith of Tuscson, Ariz., and Gloria Kolcaba of Cleveland; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Euclid Avenue Baptist Church.

Lena Schell Odessa, Wash.

Visitation for Lena Schell, 95, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Christ Lutheran Church, Odessa. Service will follow at the church. Burial will be at Odessa Cemetery.

Mrs. Schell died Monday at Odessa Convalescent Center, where she had lived for the past two and a half years.

She was born in Russia and immigrated to the United States with her family in 1902. They settled near Ruff, Wash., and homesteaded.

She worked at Kriegler Mercantile in Ruff for a few years before marrying Charles Schell in 1917.

They lived in Ruff and later in Marlin, Wash., and in 1974 moved to Odessa.

Her husband died in 1977.

She was a member of the Odessa Memorial Hospital Guild and the Big Bend Grange. She also volunteered at a local senior center.

She is survived by three daughters, Helen Dashiell and Darlene Kagele, both of Odessa, and Betty Littig of Alexandria, Va.; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
