U.S. Currency Strengthens Again
The dollar strengthened again Thursday, buoyed by rallies in U.S. securities markets, optimism over budget talks in Washington and a sweeping U.S. indictment against Japan’s Daiwa bank.
“The dollar’s been fairly well bid,” said George DeCastro, chief trader at the New York branch of Banque Indosuez. “The market seems comfortable having dollars.”
By 4 p.m. in New York, the dollar fetched 104.03 yen, up from 103.15 yen late Wednesday. The dollar hasn’t been at such levels since late September.
