Chrysler Facing Shortage Of Glass
Supplies of windshields and windows for Chrysler Corp. cars and trucks dwindled Friday as a strike continued at the plant that manufactures most of the glass the automaker uses in new vehicles.
But it appeared that Chrysler had stockpiled enough in the weeks before the walkout to keep its assembly plants running this weekend. No changes in Saturday production schedules were announced by Friday afternoon.
About 1,000 members of United Auto Workers Local 227 went on strike Wednesday at Chrysler’s McGraw Glass plant in southwest Detroit.
