Happy Face Killer Wanted In Wyoming

From Staff And Wire Reports

Authorities in Cheyenne, Wyo., are looking to put self-proclaimed serial killer Keith Jesperson on Death Row.

Prosecutors have rejected an offer from Jesperson’s lawyer for help in solving the killing of an Oklahoma City woman in exchange for a promise not to seek the death penalty, sheriff’s detective John Harrison said.

Jesperson is awaiting sentencing in Clark County, Wash., in the strangulation death of Julie Winningham last March. On Thursday in Portland, he pleaded no contest and was sentenced to life with a minimum of 30 years for the January 1990 strangulation death of Taunja Bennett.

Portland prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty against Jesperson, in part, to speed their efforts to free a man and woman convicted in the Bennett slaying before Jesperson came forward.

Wyoming authorities have traced the victim in that slaying, Angela May Subrize, from Oklahoma City as far as Seattle, drawing links between her travels and Jesperson’s movements.
