(From For the Record, Thursday, November 9, 1995:) Memorial Mass for Ursula Trunkey will be at 10 a.m. Nov. 15 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Chapel. The date was reported incorrectly in an obituary on Wednesday’s Chronicle page.

Aloysia Kees Spokane

Vigil service for Aloysia M. Kees, 92, is set for 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Kees, who was born in Arcadia, Wis., died Saturday.

She was a 46-year Spokane resident and worked as a housekeeper for nine years at Sacred Heart Medical Center.

She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and Altar Society.

Mrs. Kees is survived by four sons, James and Robert Kees, both of Spokane, Donald Kees of Moscow, Idaho, and Joseph Kees of Olympia; three daughters, Patricia Hobbs and Ann Corrigan, both of Spokane, and Gladys Bulfinch of, Antioch, Calif.; 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Aloysius Altar Society or Gonzaga Preparatory School.

Paul Shugert Spokane

Memorial service for Paul H. Shugert, 82, will be at 4 p.m. today at Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Madras, Ore., Mr. Shugert died Friday.

He had lived in Spokane for 53 years and was a salesman for Prudential Distributing.

He was a member of Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church, the Brotherhood of Friends and Meals on Wheels.

His wife, Evelyn Shugert, died earlier this year.

Mr. Shugert is survived by a son, Robert Shugert of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Clair Abrahamson Spokane

Funeral Mass for Clair M. Abrahamson, 90, is planned for 1:30 p.m. today at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. There will be private burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Abrahamson, was was born in Winsted, Minn., died Saturday.

She moved to Spokane in 1977, and was a member of the Senior Citizen Contact Center for eight years.

Her husband, Gilbert, preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sisters, Marie Farseth and Bertha Hanson, both of Spokane.

Mary Louise Burris Spokane

No service will be held for Mary Louise Burris, 79, at her request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation. Burial will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.

Mrs. Burris, who died Saturday, was born in Latah.

She was a longtime Spokane resident and worked as a cook and waitress at J.J. Newberrys for many years.

Her husband, George Burris, died in 1994.

She is survived by one brother-in-law, Lee Burris of San Diego; and several nieces.

Ursula Trunkey Spokane

Memorial Mass for Ursula M. Trunkey, 84, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Chapel. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Trunkey, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday.

She served as a nurse in the Army in France during World War II and served as head nurse in the emergency room at Sacred Heart Hospital for many years.

There are no surviving family members.

Luella Lazzaro Spokane

Funeral Mass for Luella M. Lazzaro, 90, will be at noon today at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lazzaro, who died Sunday, was born in Jamestown, N.D.

She had lived in Spokane since the 1950s, and worked for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph as an operator.

She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

Her husband, Anthony Lazzaro, died in 1994. She is survived by one son, Gary Lazzaro of Spokane; one daughter, Terry Pratt of Bellevue, Wash.; one sister, Marylu Sletmoen of Spokane; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Delbert Sanders Otis Orchards

Memorial service for Delbert E. “Del” Sanders, 70, is planned for 1 p.m. today at Spokane Cascade Mobile Home Park Recreation Center. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangement.

Mr. Sanders, who died Sunday at home, was born in Stella, Mo.

He served in the Navy during World War II, and was a 42-year resident of Spokane.

Mr. Sanders was a truck driver for Louisiana-Pacific Lumber Co. for 11 years.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Beth Sanders; two sons, Delbert Sanders Jr. of Cleveland, Texas, and Roger Sanders of Spokane; two daughters, Linda Tweedy of Chelan, Wash., and Judy Peck of Rantoul, Ill.; two brothers, Don Sanders of Anderson, Mo., and Norman Sanders of Waynesville, Mo.; and 11 grandchildren.

George ‘Ribs’ Robertson Spokane

Service for George Edward “Ribs” Robertson will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

Born in Spokane, Mr. Robertson died Saturday. He was 75.

He worked as a bartender and had lived in Spokane for 35 years.

He served in the Army during World War II in Company C, 23rd Airborne Infantry and was awarded a Purple Heart.

His wife, Elvira, preceded him in death. Mr. Robertson is survived by two daughters, Judy Thomas and Georgina Thomas Loos, both of Spokane; one brother, William Robertson of Spokane; five sisters, Opal Elixman, Bonnie Robertson and Marle Rush, all of Spokane, and Bette Robertson and Patricia Jensen, both of Anchorage, Alaska; two grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.

Helen McDaniel Spokane

Memorial service for Helen Louise McDaniel, 43, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Valley (Wash.) Cemetery. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McDaniel, who died Saturday, was born in Chewelah.

She graduated from Jenkins High School in Chewelah in 1971.

She was a member of the Spokane Christian Center.

Survivors include her husband, Barney McDaniel; and one sister, Hazel Fellows of Spokane.

Brian Peterson Vancouver, Wash.

Private service will be held for Brian W. Peterson, 78. Private burial will be in Spokane. Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel of Vancouver is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Peterson, a former Spokane resident, died Saturday.

He was born in Winside, Neb.

Mr. Peterson had worked for Washington Water Power as an industrial meter reader.

He moved to Vancouver in 1990.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Peterson; one son, Steven Peterson of Gresham, Ore.; one daughter, Jeanette Peterson of Auburn, Wash.; one brother, Gail Peterson of Spencer, Iowa; two sisters, Myra Huntley of Ainsworth, Neb., and Jean Tata of Plattesmouth, Neb.; and two grandchildren.

John Fischer Olympia

Memorial service for John E. “Jack” Fischer, 73, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Olympic Funeral Home in Tumwater, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fischer, a former Spokane resident, died Thursday.

He was born in Hall, Mont.

He served in the Air Force during World War II and received a journalism degree from the University of Montana.

He worked at The Spokesman-Review for 25 years. For 16 years he was a political writer, and he had also served as an assistant city editor. He left the newspaper in 1973.

He moved to Olympia 21 years ago and worked for the State Department of Transportation. He retired in 1990.

His wife, Kay Fischer, died in 1975.

He is survived by four daughters, Linda Freeland of Spokane, Joan Sullivan of Renton, Wash., Charlotte Braden of Centreville, Va., and Debra Low of Olympia; two brothers, Robert and Vince Fischer, both of Montana; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Dorothy Widener Spokane

Memorial service for Dorothy Dee Widener, 71, will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Burial will follow. Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Widener, who died Friday, was born in Enid, Okla.

She was a seamstress and had owned D & D Upholstery from 1971 until 1985.

She was a member of the Baptist Church and was a foster grandmother.

Mrs. Widener had lived in Spokane for 45 years.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Patterson of Spokane; three sons, James Patterson of Beaver Creek, Ore., Robert Patterson of Spokane and Dennis Patterson of Minnetonka, Minn.; three brothers, Charlie Jobe of Washington, and Mansel and Eddie Jobe, both of Missouri; five sisters, Janet Harris, Stella Porter and Fanny Chipley, all of Missouri, Lena Hartung of Washington, and Donna Kontos of California; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Herschel Kern Mead

No service will be held for Herschel Kern, 84. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Born in Greenbluff, Mr. Kern died Saturday.

He had lived in the Mead area for 70 years and retired from Kaiser Aluminum in Mead in 1975.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce; three sons, William George, William Leigh and Michael Kern; four daughters, Debbie, Aimee, Andi and Andrea Kern; two brothers, Leighton and Merlin Kern; and one sister, Thelma Ramsey.

Ruth ‘Tonti’ Hanson Spokane

At her request, no service will be held for Ruth D. “Tonti” Hanson. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Hanson, who was born in Rathdrum, Idaho, died Sunday. She was 83.

She had lived in Spokane for more than 60 years and was a homemaker.

She is survived by three nieces.
