Running Back On Brink Of History
Winston-Salem State’s Richard Huntley needs 210 rushing yards today against Virginia State to break college football’s career rushing record.
The 6-foot-1, 214-pound Huntley has rushed for 6,111 yards, 209 shy of Johnny Bailey’s record set at what is now called Texas A&M-Kingsville.
“I’m just going to play this game like it’s a game,” Huntley said. “It is my last collegiate athletic game. I’m just going to have fun.
Bailey set the record in 1989 and has played in the pros for six years. He now is with St. Louis.
Coach Kermit Blount said he’ll do his best to get Huntley the record.
“And he’ll get it as many times as he needs it,” Blount said.
