Shop Pairs Coffee And Consignments

The Quilting Bee, which recently opened its new store at Pines Road and Mission Avenue, is now starting a second venture just next door.

The new business will be called Bee Friends, and a grand opening is scheduled for Friday. The second shop will sell quilts and antiques on consignment, and will also have an espresso bar.

“It really is exciting,” said shop manager Susy Scott. “It’s going to be a nice place.”

Scott said the new consignment shop and coffee house will feature a warm, homey atmosphere.

Until its August move, the Quilting Bee was at 405 S. Dishman-Mica Road for 17 years.

The store sells fabrics, patterns and sewing machines. The business also holds classes and offers a sewing machine repair service.

The new commercial center at Pines and Mission also houses Design Works, an interior design and furniture store. Design Works opened last month.

The center was co-developed alongside the new Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar, scheduled to open later this month. Applebee’s is a chain of neighborhood-themed restaurants featuring pictures and other mementos from local sports heroes and entertainers.

Beauty salon expands

The Capri Hair & Nail salon, which opened this summer at 415 N. Sullivan Road, recently added four new stylists.

The business, owned by Marie Casto, rents chair spaces out to stylists who operate as independent businesses.

Kathy Kirby and Darci Shelling started there in late October; Lisa Neal and Evy Davis began renting spaces this month.

The new additions filled the salon’s openings, Davis said.
