Two Writing Contests Give You Creative Outlets

Our Generation is having a creative writing contest right now, and so is The Spokesman-Review’s Outdoors page. Both have Dec. 1 deadlines.

Confused?

A lot of our readers have been, so here’s the straight scoop: Our Generation is looking for poems and short stories of no more than 1,000 words on any topic. We’ll pick some of the best to run on a special creative writing page Dec. 20. There are no prizes.

Send those entries to Our Generation, Get Creative, W. 999 Riverside, Spokane, WA 99210. Call 459-5456 for more information.

The other contest is part of the Outdoor Writers Association of America’s national contest for young outdoor writers.

The contest is open to high school students writing on the general topic of “outdoors,” which includes hiking, camping, fishing, boating, nature, conservation, and more. Any literary style (humor, fiction or poetry) is acceptable.

Stories may be no longer than 1,000 words. Entries should include the writer’s name, school, grade, home address and telephone number. The winner receives $50. Call Outdoors editor Rich Landers for complete rules at 459-5508.

Don’t forget, deadlines for both is Dec. 1.
