O’Dea Finally Gives Up Points, But Not Victory

Bainbridge ended O’Dea’s shutout string, but not the football team’s winning streak. The Irish won their 23rd straight game with a 45-22 victory in the first round of the State AA playoffs. O’Dea had shut out all nine opponents in the regular season.

That the Spartans would end the shutout run, considering everyone else the Irish beat, is somewhat surprising since Bainbridge was 1-8 last year before finishing 9-2 this year. Bainbridge reached the playoffs by eliminating White River, the third straight year the Hornets fell one win short of the playoffs.

Defending State AAA champion South Kitsap, in the playoffs for the 16th straight year, ran its winning streak to 23 by beating Enumclaw 37-6 in a first-round game.

Justin Johnson of Bellevue, who entered the playoffs just 23 yards behind Central Valley’s Giorgio Usai for the Class AAA rushing lead, is through. Cascade of Everett eliminated Bellevue 19-6 while holding Johnson to 22 yards. Usai had 160 yards in his last playoff game, giving him 1,731.
