Too Complicated For Couch Potatoes

Associated Press

Personal computers as we know them won’t be used around the world on the scale of televisions or telephones, Sony Corp.’s top executive predicted Monday. Instead, computing power will be added to such everyday items as eyeglasses and televisions, Nobuyuki Idei said.

Idei said these trends drove Sony’s recent entry into the personal computer business.

“I’m not so much interested in today’s architecture of the personal computer,” he said. “I don’t think personal computers will become very popular worldwide because they’re difficult to use.”

Idei said the electronics industry will eventually create devices that use chips and software to do many of the things a PC does but in a simpler way.
