City Accepting Housing Proposals

From Staff And Wire Reports

The city of Spokane is accepting proposals on how to spend $525,000 in low-income housing money.

The federal money is available in low-interest loans and grants. It must be used for buying, remodeling or building affordable housing within the city limits.

The money is accompanied by rent controls and other requirements on how it is spent.

“Part of the problem is letting people know this money is available,” said Melora Sharts, of the city’s community development department.

“Especially the smaller apartment owners,” she said. “They’re totally eligible.”

Applications can be obtained at City Hall Room 600, or by calling 625-6325. The deadline is Jan. 9.
