Deer Attacks, Tosses Woman In Air

Associated Press

A woman who tried to feed apple slices to deer was hospitalized after being attacked by a buck that tossed her into the air with his antlers.

Mary Stodley, 63, broke her tail bone and suffered a severe cut to her right ear when the buck attacked at the Wallowa Lake campground.

Stodley had just gotten out of the car to offer a group of does the apple slices with her daughter, Sheila Dahlman, and grandsons Alex and Sean.

“I got out with the camera and Mom asked me to take a picture,” Dahlman said. “I saw the buck coming up from the side. I didn’t like the looks of the buck and told the kids to get back into the car.”

Dahlman said the buck came at her mother from her blind side. “He flipped Mom up in the air and she came down on her head. He lowered his head again and charged her.”

Dahlman chased the buck away and took her mother to the hospital.
