Mary Jacoy Spokane

Mary Carmela (Jacoy) Jacoy, Spokane, is 100 years old today.

She was born Nov. 26, 1895, in Grimaldi, Italy.

In 1914, she married Joseph Jacoy, whose last name happened to be the same as hers. Her husband migrated to America five years before Mary and their 5-year-old daughter could join him in Pueblo, Colo. She and her daughter moved to Spokane 60 years ago. They made the trip from Italy alone, unable to speak English.

Mr. Jacoy died in 1971.

Mrs. Jacoy was a homemaker and mother of three daughters: Mary Hill, Burbank, Calif.; and Annette Saccomanno and Rose Veach, both of Spokane.

She has nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She attributes her longevity to “hard work and keeping busy at all times.”
