Washington State Demolishes Fairfield, 72-46

Kristin Erickson’s 18 points boosted Washington State to a 72-46 win over Fairfield in the second round of the Wahine Classic Saturday at Honolulu, Hawaii.

With the win, WSU (1-1) moves into the tournament’s consolation championship today against North Carolina State. The Wolfpack defeated Northern Arizona to advance to the consolation finals.

Jenni Ruff finished with 10 points and had a game-high seven steals.

Juli Wight chipped in 15 points for the Cougars.

Kelly Gaines scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Community Colleges of Spokane opened the season with a victory over visiting Treasure Valley in a non-conference game.

Missy Davies chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds for CCS, which held Treasure Valley to just 18-of-52 shooting from the floor. Spokane wasn’t much better, however, hitting 21 of 61.

Carroll 69, Whitworth 51

A cold shooting night spelled trouble for the Pirates, who were beaten by Carroll College in the Sarsfield Tournament at Butte, Mont.

While both teams struggled from the floor - the Pirates (2-2) shot 32 percent, Carroll just 33 percent - Whitworth couldn’t hit from the line, either. The Pirates were just 36 percent while Carroll was 70 percent from the foul line.

Whitworth’s Jennifer Tissue was the only player who could find the basket, finishing with 21 points.

Teammate Sherri Northington chipped in 14 points.
