Jackie’s Tasso Takes Feature; Burlington Man Makes Haul
Jackie’s Tasso made short work of a long race and one fan from the West Side of the state made plenty of long green Sunday on the next-to-last program of the Spokane horse racing season at Playfair Race Course.
Jackie’s Tasso, skillfully rated by jockey Lane Rennaker, surged to the front on the third trip down the backstretch and went on to win the 48th running of the Inland Empire Marathon by almost onesixteenth of mile. Frost Gothe Peach, the pacesetting favorite, faded badly in the stretch, but finished second, 32 lengths behind the winner, but well ahead of 1993 winner Shawn Boy.
The fortunate fan, playing the races at a new simulcast facility, the Sports Keg, in Burlington, Wash., took home the entire jackpot of $99,670.60 from the final twin trifecta of the season.
