Two Gunmen Hold Up North Division Restaurant

From Staff And Wire Reports

Two men robbed a North Division restaurant at gunpoint Sunday night, stealing money from the cash register and tables, police said.

The men entered Songhay Restaurant, 2435 N. Division, at about 7 p.m. One of the men wore two bandannas wrapped around his face. The other wore a mask.

About five customers were sitting in the lounge watching football on television.

One of the men grabbed the bartender, held a gun to her head and dragged her to the cash register. He took an undisclosed amount of money, police said.

The bartender was “scared to tears because of the shock of being held up,” a worker said. “That’s your worst nightmare, especially with the guns.”

The robbers also grabbed money left on the tables, along with a pack of cigarettes and a cigarette lighter, police said. The two men then ran out the back door.

Police were searching for the suspects late Sunday.
