Cougars Sign Six For Baseball Team

Washington State has signed six high school seniors, five of them from Washington, to national letters of intent to play baseball in the 1997 season, coach Steve Farrington said.

The six are: Adam Eaton, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound pitcher-infielder from Snohomish; Jason Ellison, 5-9, 165, pitcher-outfielder and Ryan Smith, 6-1, 190, catcher, both from South Kitsap in Bremerton; Wade Parrish, 6-2, 185, pitcher-first baseman, Othello; Shawn Stevenson, 5-8, 135, shortstop, Cascade in Everett; and Todd Meldahl, 6-1, 185, pitcher-outfielder, from Butte, Mont.

“Every one of them can step in and play as freshmen,” Farrington said. The group is pitcher-heavy because “we needed four quality pitchers to join our returnees.”
