Passenger In Pickup Steals Woman’s Purse

From Staff And Wire Reports

Two men who asked a woman for directions Monday morning in north Spokane swiped her purse and got away, even though she held onto the bag’s strap until it broke, sheriff’s deputies said.

The victim, 54, told deputies she was waiting for a bus on the 7700 block of North Altamont about 6:40 a.m. She saw a pickup truck drive by, turn around and pull up close to her.

A passenger inside asked for directions. When the woman extended her arm to point out which way they should go, the passenger reached out and grabbed her purse, deputies said.

Deputies said some cash and personal property was inside the purse.

The passenger is described as white with medium-length hair and the beginning of a full beard, deputies said. His teeth are yellow, and he wore a dark baseball cap and white T-shirt.

The victim didn’t get a good look at the driver, deputies said, but the pickup is a dark blue older model, probably a two-wheel drive. The truck had a noisy muffler and fog lights, deputies said.

The woman was not injured. , DataTimes
