Ex-Vandal Green Learns Sentence

Former Idaho player Jevon Green could spend the next five years in prison, but he has a chance to shorten his jail time with good behavior.

Found guilty of numerous probation violations, Green was sentenced to five years in the state penitentiary, two years fixed, and had his probation revoked by Judge John H. Bengtson, who elected to retain jurisdiction for the next 180 days.

That means Green will go through boot camp at Cottonwood, Idaho. Near the end of 180 days the prison staff will send a report to Bengtson documenting Green’s behavior and conduct. If the report is positive, Bengtson has the option of placing Green back on probation.

Volleyball

Stephanie Short’s 12 kills and Sheryl Hovde’s 31 assists on Wednesday led Community Colleges of Spokane to a 15-5, 15-10, 15-10 volleyball win at Walla Walla CC.

The Sasquatch, 16-13 overall, improved their Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges record to 3-1.

Other statistical leaders for CCS were: Jenni Rosselli, 11 digs; Lori Peters, five blocks; and Kaya Allen, three aces. Josie Hopkins added eight kills for the Sasquatch, defending NWAACC champions.

Men’s soccer

Doug Birdtail and Clayton Thomas took turns feeding each other for goals as CCS (4-2-1, 6-3-1) beat Green River CC 2-1 in an NWAACC match at Spokane Falls.

Birdtail opened the scoring at 8 minutes. Thomas scored at 35 minutes, after Lacki Troukis tied the match for the Gators (3-3-1).

CCS entered the day 2-3-1, but picked up a forfeit win when Clark CC was punished for using an ineligible player during a Sept. 16 match.
