Cal’s Fowlkes Ineligible
California forward Tremaine Fowlkes, the Pacific-10 Conference freshman of the year last season, has been declared ineligible for competition by the school because of an apparent NCAA violation involving a car.
According to a statement released by California, the violation was discovered after a university investigation conducted in cooperation with the Pac-10. The procedure is for a school to declare a player ineligible and then take the matter to the NCAA and apply to have the player’s eligibility reinstated.
The violation centered around an automobile Fowlkes drove. He no longer has the car, the school said.
California provided no more details. But in August, the Los Angeles Times reported the car was provided by former sports agent James Casey.
