Wing Falls Off Plane During Mock Dogfight

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Portland doctor who served as a colonel in the Oregon Air National Guard died Sunday after the wing fell off his small plane during a mock dogfight.

Dr. Hugh Stephen “Steve” Moseley, 53, was killed when his plane crashed about 4:40 p.m. in a field near Forest Grove High School.

Allegre said witnesses saw the wing of Moseley’s homemade aircraft fall off in the air, causing the crash.

Moseley was a flight surgeon and an experienced pilot who had served with the Air National Guard for more than 20 years. His missions included a five-month stint in 1991 as commander of a contingent of 80 doctors and medical workers who replaced regular Air Force personnel at U.S. military bases during the Persian Gulf War.

Cmdr. Chuck Leutwyler of the Washington County sheriff’s office said investigators will examine the wreckage.
