Clarkston Sweeps Past East Valley
Amy Metcalf has 15 blocks and eight kills Tuesday as Clarkston (8-0) beat visiting and second-place East Valley 15-10, 15-8, 15-11 to sweep the Knights for the Frontier League season.
Crystal Poskey added 18 assists for the Bantams, who have won three of the last four league titles. Jenny Kann had 11 assists and three digs for EV (6-2).
At Chattaroy, third-place and defending league champ West Valley (5-3) beat Riverside 15-13, 15-6, 15-2.
The first game was tied at 13 before two WV serves. The Eagles served eight straight in the second game. Arin Craig had 10 kills and eight blocks for WV; Meredith Thompson led the Rams (0-8) with six kills and two aces.
Jennifer Scott served for six points in the final game as Cheney (2-5) outlasted visiting Colville 15-12, 8-15, 15-13, 8-15, 15-11. Scott also had nine kills and five blocks. Nika Blackman had nine digs and six blocks for the Indians (3-6).
Jumping to 6-0 leads in the second and fourth games, North Central (7-4) beat Shadle Park 7-15, 15-11, 15-5, 15-4 and moved into third place in the Greater Spokane League after sweeping the Highlanders for the first time in history.
Tamara Van Engelen of NC had 22 kills and Heidi Greenwood served five consecutive fourth-game points. Courtney Clary had seven kills for Shadle (3-9).
Central Valley (2-10) rebounded for a 3-15, 15-11, 2-15, 15-10, 15-13 win over University (7-5) and left the cellar.
Ricki Jackson had eight blocks, 10 digs and four kills for the Bears. Sally Jamison had 24 kills and 18 digs for the Titans.
Mead (5-7) played its best match of the year, as Andrea Carnahan had 42 assists and 10 digs in a 15-12, 7-15, 16-14, 15-12 win over Lewis and Clark (7-5).
In the third game, Lindsey Miller had a crucial ace and Jessica Sanborn, who had a match-high 24 assists, put up a quick set to finish the game. Erin Naipo had 19 kills and nine digs for the Tigers.
Second-place Ferris (9-2) scored 15 unanswered points in the third game of a 15-6, 15-3, 15-5 win over visiting Rogers (1-10). K.C. Richards had seven kills and two aces for the Saxons, who trail Gonzaga Prep (11-0). Jaime Christensen had nine assists and nine digs for Rogers.
Girls soccer
Deer Park/Riverside and EV stayed step-for-step in the Frontier League.
At Chattaroy, Katie Bowers scored the first goal and set up the second as host DP/R (7-2-0) beat Cheney 4-0. The thirdplace Blackhawks are 5-3-1.
Medical Lake held visiting EV (6-0-2) scoreless for nearly 77 minutes, but Tammy Hill and Kristina Manchester provided late unassisted goals for a 2-0 win. The Cardinals are 3-6-0.
College golf
Jen McGregor of Montana State and Ryan Deiro of Boise State were medalists and led their teams to Big Sky Conference championships at Bozeman, Mont.
Eastern Washington’s women shot 1,006 to place fifth, led by Brooke Hanford (240), who tied for fourth.
EWU’s men were fourth at 918, led by sixth-place Scott Carroll (224).
College volleyball
At Lewiston, Whitworth lost a nonleague match to Lewis-Clark State, 15-4, 15-3, 16-14. Kim Steinbruecker had 11 assists for the Pirates (1-15).
