Test Scores Better For Spokane Students
Test scores improved this year for college-bound seniors in the Spokane School District.
Scores were higher on both the Scholastic Assessment Test and the Advanced Placement Exams given to seniors each spring.
On the Scholastic Assessment Test, the average score on the verbal section was 438 compared with 427 last year. On the math portion, the average score was 482 compared with 478 last year.
Joe Kinney, director of testing, told school board members Wednesday the test scores are up for the third straight year while the test continues to attract large numbers of college-bound students. Forty-four percent of the district’s 1,875 seniors took the test.
The SAT test is used for college admissions.
On the Advanced Placement Exams, the 304 students taking the tests had an average score of 3.37 compared with a score of 3.28 last year. That is higher than the state average of 3.04 and the average in 12 western states of 3.03.
“It’s wonderful to have this kind of news,” said Associate Superintendent Cynthia Lambarth.
