Beastly Beds Pamper Your Pets

New York Times

Two years ago, Addison Berkey, a house restorer, designed a four-poster bed for his dog and then showed it to his friend Diana King. From that one bed sprouted a partnership and a company - Beastly Beds, in Pine Plains, N.Y.

Berkey and King test-marketed their mahogany four-poster bed by taking it to pet-supply stores in Manhattan.

There are also two less-formal styles. The Cottage Bed is a four-poster but it is made of poplar, painted off-white and waxed to look old. It comes with a blue-and-white checked cushion and sells for $325. The Shaker Handyman Bed ($225) is cherry-stained poplar and has a blue-and-white plaid cushion with a woven rope mattress.

The mahogany four-poster ($425) is available at Scully & Scully, 504 Park Avenue, New York, N.Y.; (800) 223-3717.

The Cottage Bed and the Shaker Bed are available from Beastly Beds. Information: (518) 398-6617.
