George Harris Pullman
Graveside service for George Edward Harris 86, will be at 1 p.m. today at Pullman City Cemetery. Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at Simpson United Methodist Church in Pullman. Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Harris, who was born in London, died Tuesday.
He had lived in Toronto, Ontario, for many years, and had worked for Emerald Glass Scientific there.
In 1952, he and his wife, Doris Harris, moved to Pullman, where he was a scientific glass blower for Washington State University. He retired in 1974.
He was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church and the Northwest Section of America Scientific Glassblowers Society.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, at home; one son, Norman Harris of Renton, Wash.; one daughter, Dorian Harris of Gresham, Ore.; three sisters, Ellen Earl of Scarborough, Ontario, Rose Seymour of Toronto and Win Norris of Kitchener, Ontario; and two grandsons.
Dorothy Hoenike Oakesdale, Wash.
Funeral service for Dorothy Mildred Hoenike, 84, will be at 2 p.m. today at Oakesdale Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Oakesdale Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hoenike, a longtime Whitman County resident, died Tuesday at Tekoa (Wash.) Care Center.
She was born in Elberton, Wash., and moved to Oakesdale when she was a child.
She graduated from Oakesdale High School and Kinman Business University in Spokane.
Mrs. Hoenike worked for the Oakesdale Grange and at the bookstore on the Washington State University campus in Pullman.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Rebekah Lodge and Oakesdale Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder.
She played the piano and organ for the church, lodges and Tekoa Care Center residents.
She had several of her writings published in the Poetic Voice of America and other publications.
Survivors include one son, Elmer Hoenike of Oakesdale; three daughters, Louise Hansen of Spokane, Patricia Ward of Greenacres and Diane Stiles of Diamond Lake, Wash.; 13 grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Oakesdale Presbyterian Church.
Jim Hedlund Colfax, Wash.
Service for Jim Hedlund, 38, was held Thursday at First Baptist Church of Colfax. Burial was at Colfax Cemetery.
Mr. Hedlund, chief of the Diamond Volunteer Fire District, died Monday from pancreatic failure.
He was born in Renton, Wash., and graduated from Tonasket (Wash.) High School.
He received his electrician’s degree from Spokane Community College and
in 1980 moved to Colfax, where he started Hedlund Electric, which he operated until his death.
He was the chief of the Diamond Volunteer Fire District No. 11, which he joined in 1980. He was also a member of the Colfax Volunteer Fire Department since 1983.
Mr. Hedlund was a member of the Colfax Elks Lodge and was involved in the Junior Rodeo and Palouse Empire Fair.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Janet; three daughters, Jennifer, Jacki Jo and Jamie Hedlund, all of Colfax; his father, Leonard Hedlund of Tonasket; his mother, Laura Kinmon of Wenatchee; one brother, Jack Hedlund of Tonasket; and one sister, Janet Leavell of San Diego.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jim Hedlund Scholarship Fund for the Fire Academy in care of the Colfax Volunteer Fire Department.
Clarinda Thomas Laclede, Idaho
Rosary Vigil for Clarinda B. Thomas, 96, will be Sunday at 7 p.m. at St. Catherine’s Church of Sienna in Priest River, Idaho. Christian Burial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine’s Church. Interment will follow at the Seneacquoteen Cemetery near Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Thomas, who was born in Minnesota, died Thursday in Sandpoint.
She had lived in the HooDoo Valley area prior to moving to Laclede in 1914.
She married Harrison Thomas in 1916.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of St. Catherine’s Church of Sienna.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Survivors include a son, Sonny Thomas of Laclede; three daughters, Dolly Kurtz and Marie McNew, both of Laclede, and Bonnie Burns of Priest Lake; one brother, Bud Westover of Shelton, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to St. Catherine’s Church or the Laclede Community Center.
James Mason Tacoma
Memorials service for James E. Mason, 64, was held Friday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Parish in Tacoma.
Mr. Mason, who died Thursday, was born in Spokane.
He graduated from of Central Valley High School in Spokane and Gonzaga University.
He had lived in Pierce County for the past 30 years and was a self-employed leasing agent.
He had served in the Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; three daughters, Christine Frogge, Francine Mason and Bernadine Moody; two sons, James and Grant Mason; three stepchildren, Leigh, David and Timothy Knight; two sisters, Caroline Rusk of Alaska and Janyce Satran of Spokane; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Parish School.
Marie Boyles Spokane
Burial and memorial service for Marie Helen Boyles, 68, was held Thursday at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Boyles, who died Oct. 7, was born in Fenn, Idaho.
She had worked at the Shack Restaurant for 12 years and in 1974 moved to Seattle, where she worked in the garment industry.
She retired in 1988 and returned to Spokane.
She helped her daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Neil Johnson, build their home in Spokane and worked with her other children remodeling their homes.
She is survived by her fiance, Frederick “Ziggy” Ziegler of Boise; one son, Tim Boyles of Seattle; two daughters, Gail Johnson and Debi Cruz, both of Spokane; four brothers, Joe Kaschmitter of Grangeville, Idaho, George Kaschmitter of Fenn, and Bernard and Leo Kaschmitter, both of Cottonwood, Idaho; and one grandson.
Louise Knowles Bismarck, N.D.
Graveside service for Louise Charlotte Knowles, 83, will be today at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Knowles, a longtime Wallace, resident, died Tuesday in Bismarck.
She lived in Wallace for 20 years and also lived in Spokane before moving to Fargo, N. D.
She married Harley Knowles in Wallace in 1942.
Mrs. Knowles was a member of the Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Englerth of Bismarck and Darlene Daily of California; two sisters, Margie Bowen of Auburn, Wash., and Sue Thompson of Spokane; and two grandchildren.
Gladys Biggar Spokane
Memorial graveside service for Gladys Marie Biggar, 82, will be at 2 p.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.
Born in Spokane, Mrs. Biggar died Tuesday.
She graduated from North Central High School and was a lifetime Spokane resident.
She worked at Five Mile Laundry for 30 years.
She was a 50-year member of the Five Mile Grange and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the American Association of Retired Persons.
Her husband, Howard, died in 1973.
She is survived by one daughter, Suzanne McCord of Spokane; three sons, Kaye Biggar of San Antonio, Texas, and Richard and Steven Biggar, both of Spokane; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Douglass Frank Hope, Idaho
Family service for Douglass C. Frank, 83, will be next summer. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Frank, who was born in New Jersey, died Tuesday in Sandpoint.
He graduated from Rutgers University in New Jersey. He married Evelyn DeRundeou in 1937.
Mr. Frank moved to California that same year and operated an orange grove and commercial plant nurseries. He later served with the Navy in Trinidad during World War II. He also worked as a fire department captain at Norton Air Force Base in California.
He moved to his ranch near Hope after retiring in 1970.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing as well as raising horses, cattle and sheep. He was a member of the Congregational Church in California. .
Survivors include his wife, at home; two sons, Richard of California and Douglass of Colorado; and one daughter, Cami Walraf of Hope.
