Wwp, Sierra Pick New Name

From Staff And Wire Reports

Washington Water Power Co. and Sierra Pacific Resources Friday announced a new name for the company that would be created by their pending merger.

Altus, which means the highest standard, replaces Resources West Energy Corp., a name Sierra Pacific Chairman Walter Higgins said was too easily confused with those of other utilities.

“It was evident soon after the merger announcement that Resources West Energy would not work as a permanent name,” he said.

“The new name will help us establish a strong brand identity for the company,” added WWP Chairman Paul Redmond.

Resources West has been the working name for the combined companies since the merger was announced in June 1994.

Regulatory review of the transaction is nearing completion, and officials of the companies expect the deal to close by the end of the year.

Along with the new name will come a new trading symbol of the New York and Pacific stock exchanges: ATU.
