Aide Implicates King

Compiled From Wire Services

An aide to boxing promoter Don King, who translated contracts for one of his star fighters, testified at his insurance fraud trial in New York that she never was shown a contract King allegedly faked.

The aide, Gladys Rosa, told a jury in federal court in Manhattan that the contract she watched WBC super lightweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez sign in 1991 was for $1.5 million.

She said she never saw Chavez sign a contract for $2 million that included a paragraph referring to $350,000 in nonrefundable training expenses. That clause was necessary for King to recover insurance money once the fight was cancelled.

Former WBO middleweight and super-middleweight champion Chris Eubank announced his retirement in Hove, England, five weeks after losing a title rematch against Steve Collins of Ireland.
