College Fair May Help With Big Decisions
FOR THE RECORD: Thursday, October 19, 1995 CORRECTION: The sixth annual Family-a-Fair is Oct. 27-30 at the Spokane Convention Center. The dates were wrong in an Our Generation story Wednesday.
College, college, college. “A college education is an important component for a successful career,” blah blah blah.
For many high school students, words of college drift in one ear, roam around the brain for a while and escape out the other. Escape, however, is impossible. Choices need to be made soon.
Luckily, bewildered teens can drag their weary brains to the Inland Northwest National College Fair at the Spokane Convention Center, and unlike college, admission is free! The fair is Oct. 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Oct. 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This is a traveling college admissions fair with representatives from both large and small schools throughout the nation. Students can get answers to college admission questions straight from the source, especially those far from the Inland Northwest where you may not be able to visit. Parents are welcome.
Teens needed: The Sixth Annual Family-a-Fair this weekend at the Spokane Convention Center is desperately seeking teens who like working with children, balloons, art projects and costumes. Last year 15,000 parents and kids attended.
This year, the fair is seeking volunteers for several activities, including teens who can stroll the exhibit aisles in costumes (Smokey Bear, etc.), work with children in the art room, help put up sets on the entertainment stage and more.
Interested teens (and others) should call 456-3733 today.
Dont’t forget: Kentucky Fried Chicken is still taking nominations for its Colonel’s Way Award, a national seniors award program which recognizes outstanding achievements of people over 60.
Where do teens come in? The organizers are encouraging teenagers to nominate senior citizens they admire as a way to bust stereotypes among both groups. The program aims to encourage people of all ages to reflect on senior’s important contributions to their communities.
The top prize is $10,000, but five finalists win $2,500. Winning nominators get $500. Entries must be post marked by Jan. 19. For entry information, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Colonel’s Way Award, 200 E. Randolph Dr., 63rd Floor, Chicago, IL 60601.
