Ewu Evens Score With Gonzaga

Eastern Washington avenged a loss to Gonzaga earlier this season by sweeping past the Bulldogs 15-10, 15-7, 15-7 in a non-conference volleyball match Tuesday at Reese Court.

Eastern (4-15) took a 7-0 lead in the first game, then scored the last five points of the match to register the win over the Bulldogs (2-21). The Eagles scored eight-straight points in the second game to open a 10-2 lead and win easily. In the final game, Eastern scored the last eight points of the match to pull away from a seven-all tie.

In Moscow, Idaho, the Idaho Vandals defeated the NAIA Lewis-Clark State Warriors 15-12, 15-8, 15-6 in front of 602 fans in Memorial Gym.

Idaho (18-4, 6-1) was led by Louisa Kawulok’s 17 kill and five blocks.

National rankings

Washington State University remained in fifth place for the second straight week in the USA Today/AVCA coaches poll.

The Cougars (16-1) received 1,202 votes. Nebraska (16-1) maintained its hold on the No. 1 ranking, followed by Hawaii (17-0), Florida (19-0) and Stanford (14-2).

Idaho is ranked No. 24.
