Hughes Earns Accolade

Ian Hughes, a 1995 graduate of Central Valley High School and a freshman punter at Army, has been honored for his 52-yard average in Saturday’s 28-27 football loss to nationally ranked Notre Dame.

The 6-foot, 165-pound Hughes earned the AT&T Long Distance punt award. His longest punt in the game at New York’s Giants Stadium traveled 69 yards.

In honor of Hughes, the communications giant has donated $400 to the NCAA’s Degree-Completion Award Program. Hughes will also receive a plaque.
