Virginia Group Pursues Astros

Bill Collins and his Virginia baseball group are trying to buy the Houston Astros and move them to the Washington D.C. area, according to a report by a Washington television station.

Collins and his group have had “substantial discussions” with Astros owner Drayton McLane about purchasing the Houston club, said WTTG-TV.

Gene Michael, facing the prospect of a $200,000 pay cut, resigned as general manager of the New York Yankees and became the team’s director of major league scouting.

New York city and state officials met with New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner at City Hall and agreed to study three possible sites for a new ballpark - two in the Bronx, one in Manhattan.
