Devils Win, Again

Four months later, nothing has changed between the New Jersey Devils and Detroit Red Wings. In the first meeting of the teams since the Devils swept the Red Wings in the Stanley Cup finals, New Jersey beat Detroit 4-2 Thursday night at the Meadowlands.

Scott Niedermayer, Tommy Albelin, Brian Rolston and Jim Dowd scored to help the Stanley Cup champions improve their record to 5-1.

Detroit, winless in its last three, had goals from Sergei Fedorov and Keith Primeau and led 2-1 in the first period.

After New Jersey took an early lead on a power-play goal by Niedermayer at 3:54, Fedorov evened the score exactly 1 minute later. With Detroit on the power play, Fedorov took a cross-ice pass from Paul Coffey and drilled a shot from the right point past Martin Brodeur.
